Dear Mother and Father,
A shooting in Paris occurred a day or so ago against a news source called Charlie Hebdo. A recent cover portraying Mohammad was what sparked Muslim extremists to kill 10 journalists and 2 police officers. In Courchevel, I am perfectly safe. I only wished to inform you on the events that took place and to clarify I am in perfect health. Although the attack was far from warranted, the cover, in my opinion, was extremely offensive. It portrayed Mohammad with exaggerated features and speech bubble that translated to; "100 lashes if you don't die of laughter.". Although I am a firm believer in freedom of speech, I also understand that choosing your battles is imperative. If this one cover wasn't printed, 12 people would still be alive. The ways religious extremists handle situations like these is awful. But we, as a people with news sources constantly warning about the growing capabilities of groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda, should know they aren't forces to be reckoned with.
That is all-
Love,
Your Favorite Son
